Following the same successful recipe used for the Custom Performance Engineering Mazdaspeed 6 downpipe, the Mazdaspeed 3 downpipe replaces the choked factory pipe and its two restrictive cats with one high-flow cat and a 3” mandrel-bent pipe. The catalytic converter features a high-flow, all metallic honeycomb design, making it one of the most durable converters on the market. The result is reduced backpressure, decreased turbo spool time, increased horsepower and a more aggressive sound. For an even greater dose of the same great sound and power, you can also order the downpipe without a catalytic converter (OFFROAD USE ONLY). The high flow, CNC spun, metallic, catalytic converter option will not set a check engine light.
Although more power and great sound are high priority items when buying a downpipe, the fine details are what ensure that the product will satisfy the end-user for a lifetime. There is no junk steel or cut and welded intermediate bends on this pipe. Our downpipe is crafted from premium “Bright annealed” 304 stainless steel and is mandrel-bent throughout for less turbulent exhaust flow. The flanges are 3/8” thick laser-cut steel, for high strength and durability, and all critical portions of the pipe are TIG welded. TIG welds are usually avoided in this industry because they require more time and skill than a MIG weld, despite the fact that TIG welds are better suited for thin metals, are better looking, and create a more durable bond. We held nothing back with this product.
When paired with our new cp-e catback exhaust system, the full turbo back system on MS3 gained about 30 horsepower and 40 lb/ft of torque to the wheels compared to the stock system. There is more to the graphs than just the ‘peak gains.’ The mid-range is greatly enhanced, and notice how much quicker the power comes on with the cp-e turbo back installed.
The downpipe comes with all necessary hardware required for a complete and professional installation.
The dyno charts below indicate the horsepower and torque gains over a stock Mazdaspeed 3.
I was up in the air for a while on which downpipe to go with and if I wanted to go catted or castles. I am very glad I decided to go with Cp-e. I was very impressed with how well made it was and I love the look of the satin coating they use. I was impressed with the amount of gains I had got just from taking out those 2 restrictive stock cats. The instructions were nice and clear and luckily I didn't have any problems with my 02 sensors during install. It took about 6-8 hours to install but it was also the first downpipe I have ever changed. There was also a huge improvement in the tone and overall sound of the exhaust!
awesome piece of work great job cpe.when you compare it too the stock dp blind people can see the difference need i say more zoom zoom
